Role Overview

The Production Supervisor (Sheet-metal) for Hyde Details is a key part of the Management Team and is responsible for the day-to-day production requirements, working closely with the team leaders and production scheduler. You will report to the production manager and where required, acting up in his absence. As part of the management team, it is expected that the person in posts will act professionally, with authority, by example, and with best interest of Hyde Details.

 Main Duties

Safety: lead by example, promotes safety and prevents unsafe acts and behavior. 

Quality: ensures that aerospace standards of quality are met, taking appropriate actions to improve quality. 

Cost: must be commercially astute, eliminate waste, allocate production requirements effectively and contribute to the identification of / implementation of continuous improvement activities. 

Delivery: it plays a key role in ensuring that capacity is in place to discharge the operations required through each stage of the process. 

People: create a positive, harmonious working environment that ensures we can best meet our clients’ requirements. 

Sustainability: develop and maintain an understanding of the ongoing activity to retain our environmental accreditation and actions to reduce waste / our impact on the environment. 

Role Requirements: 

Safety

  • Have a working understanding of health and safety best practice and legislation. 

  • Lead by example and promote / enforce safe working practices.

  • Ensure that H&S policies / memos are followed (inc. staff, visitors, contracts).

  • Prevent / police unsafe practice by operators.

  • Identify opportunities for safer practice. 

  • Undertake personal H&S training courses / modules. 

  • Support and maintain a “safety first” philosophy.  

Quality

  • Maintain an awareness of the IMS core procedures / general quality requirements within the aerospace and defence sectors. 

  • Ensure that all operators understand the quality expectation / requirements.

  • Intervene to prevent quality issues.

  • Implement proactive steps to increase quality standards / outcomes. 

  • Attend MRB for sheet metal related items / issues if required (in the absence of the Production Manager).

Cost

  • Commercial awareness; develop an understanding of the MRP system. 

  • Monitor operational times (op times/costs) and take actions in the event of excessive labour costs.  

  • Identify and address issues that cause costing issues (scrap, labour times, OEE, poor practice etc). 

  • Ensure that lean manufacturing operational practices are in place and that wastes (8 waste) are eliminated. 

  • Review operational practices for cost efficiency and/or identify and explore better operational technology.  

Delivery

  • Maintain an understanding of our client’s requirements to ensure that we can meet the level of delivery schedule adherence (DSA) targeted. 

  • Production Work to list (WTL) requirements; ensure that collectively (Team leaders/operators) the sheet-metal ‘production team’ are working to the engaged and making the right decisions to achieve the required level of WTL DSA on a daily / weekly basis.

  • Capacity: ensure that we have the required capacity in-place to achieve the WTL demands. 

  • Work allocation; assess the work content so that work can be allocated according to skill, training needs and to maximise the use of the capacity / resource available. 

People

  • Create and maintain a positive working culture to ensure that we maximise our output through work allocation, training and development and workplace enthusiasm. 

  • Training/skills development; using the skills matrix and by knowing your team, identify where training and development is needed to strengthen the team. 

  • Trade tests: use the range of trade tests to support operator development, creating additional trade tests where required.

  • Communication / DSUM’s; chair operators DSUMS to ensure that relevant information is communicated in a timely / positive way to enhance the workplace culture. Take and respond to any actions arising from these meetings.  

  • Charge hands / team-leaders; create, develop and evolve a small team of charge hands / team leaders (where required) to take responsibility for identified management tasks within the business. Ensure that their job descriptions accurately reflect their agreed remit. 

Sustainability 

  • requirements of ISO14001; maintain a working understanding of the environmental accreditation in order to make appropriate day to day decisions. 

  • Regularly review activity within the factory with sustainability in mind, i.e. wasted resources, incorrect management of the disposal of waste etc. 

Other 

  • 5S: ensure that 5S standard are in place, remain in place through training and that the 5S levels are audited and reported via the correct media.

  • Due to the subcontract nature of our business, a flexible hand on approach to your responsibilities is required.

The role of the Project Engineer is expected to work as a key stakeholder manager in relation to ongoing work, managing our reputation and interests with our customer whilst also delivering in accordance with the project specific contract requirements. Responsibilities:

The Stores person will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Stores and inventory management. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the receipt, storage, organisation, and distribution of aerospace parts and materials, ensuring compliance with quality standards and safety regulations. The role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to handle specialised aerospace components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Management: Accurately track and maintain stock levels of aerospace materials and parts.

  • Receiving and Inspection: Receive deliveries of parts, materials, and supplies, ensuring all items meet quality and safety standards. Inspect incoming materials for damages or discrepancies and report issues to management.

  • Storage and Organisation: Organise the Stores to optimise space utilisation and ensure easy access to materials. Store parts according to relevant storage guidelines, such as temperature or humidity controls for sensitive materials.

  • Order Fulfilment: Pick, pack, and distribute items as required by the production team or other departments. Ensure timely and accurate order fulfilment to avoid production delays.

  • Inventory Control: Perform periodic stock checks (cycle counts, annual inventory) and assist with reconciling discrepancies between physical stock and records. Report any discrepancies or concerns to supervisors.

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including proper lifting techniques, the use of PPE, and adherence to regulations regarding the handling of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and organised Stores.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of stock movements, deliveries, and inventory levels. Prepare reports on inventory status and perform other administrative duties as required.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the production, procurement, and engineering teams to ensure that all required materials are available for production runs. Communicate effectively with other departments regarding inventory needs.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience in inventory management or storekeeping, preferably in an aerospace or manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge: Understanding of aerospace materials, parts, and safety standards. Familiarity with aerospace production processes is an advantage.

  • Technical Skills: Proficient in using warehouse management systems (WMS) or enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, SAP knowledge/experience is preferred. Basic computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and handle heavy materials and work in a warehouse setting. Comfort with operating forklifts or other warehouse equipment.

  • Attention to Detail: Strong organisational skills with a high level of accuracy in inventory control and record-keeping.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in inventory and handle issues related to stock management efficiently.

  • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members and other departments.

The Lab Technician function will work closely under the direction of the Quality Manager who is responsible for quality compliance, on a wide range of quality assurance and control activities to ensure our KPIs are achieved.

The successful candidate will work within the laboratory department supporting all periodic testing requirements and other laboratory functions in accordance with a range of strict written standards.  You will be required to support in the review of laboratory test reports and understand what action to take when there are opportunities to prevent risk or make improvements identified through reliable test data.  You will have a sound understanding of working safely around chemicals and substances and have a demonstrated background of working within a Laboratory, using a range of laboratory hardware.

Main Duties

  • Periodic Testing of coatings, materials, chemical solutions and water systems to ensure stability and compliance to strict internal written procedures and client specifications.

  • Filling process tanks with new chemical solutions in accordance with manufacturers technical data sheets and client controlling specifications.

  • Maintain compliance with the operating parameters specified by manufacturers technical data sheets and client controlling specifications by making additions to existing solutions when needed.

  • Continually ensure compliance to strict Periodic testing schedules.

  • Support in the topping up of effluent chemicals when needed.

  • Carry out the Identification marking of test tokens to maintain the traceability and integrity of test results.

  • Day to day use of electronic titration systems, artificial corrosion test chambers and other laboratory devices/equipment.

  • Ensure the health and safety procedures are always followed.

  • Record, Analyse and interpret results from test data.

  • Support in the generation of actions to bring about improvements based on results on laboratory testing and trend analysis.

  • Control and maintain the stock levels of laboratory consumables to the Inventory Management System.

  • Support Laboratory 6S Standard to ensure laboratory remains in a controlled sustainable condition.

  • Ability to carry out chemical analysis.

  • Experience working with strongly acidic and basic solutions in a laboratory environment.

  • Knowledgeable in chemical and solution analysis requirements.

Britannia Dynamics is currently recruiting a Toolmaker/Fitter based at one of our bespoke Engineering facilities in Atherton Manchester. As a Toolmaker/Fitter, you will be responsible for the manufacture and assembly of Jigs & Fixtures for the Aerospace & Nuclear Industry.

Main Duties

  • Manufacture and assembly of Jigs and fixtures.

  • Occasional offsite work both in the UK and Overseas

Essential Skills

  • Familiar with Toolroom Machinery and a good understanding of Engineering Drawings.

Desired Skills

  • Assembly/Fitting skills with good attention to detail.

Desired Experience

  • Aerospace experience beneficial but not essential.

CMM Inspector

Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge and an opportunity to work in a fast paced predominantly aerospace supplier with a growing orderbook and portfolio of clients?

We are looking to appoint a CMM Inspector with industry knowledge and aerospace experience to work as part of our quality team within our machining business at our Stockport (Cheshire) site.

As a CMM Inspector, you will be responsible for inspecting jobs at various stages of the machining inspection process (1st off, final inspection and FAIR inspection) in line with customer requirements (capture specific measurements from customer requirements).

You will also be responsible for providing machine operators timely feedback on product non-conformities, highlighting any training needs to supervisors and assist them with any technical queries.

You’ll use your experience to seek out and drive continuous improvements to identify and resolve issues within your control, also contributing towards wider continuous improvement activities.

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent communications skills are imperative.

  • Must have good team working ethic, be highly pro-active and motivated.

  • Ability to read and interpret 3D Models & 2D drawings.

  • Experience in a CMM software. Ideally Camio but working knowledge of others will be taken into consideration.

  • Excellent customer facing skills with a proactive approach to problem solving.

  • Solid engineering background.

  • Good understanding of the quality management systems (QMS) in either Aerospace/Automotive industry.

  • Understanding of AS9100.

  • FAIRS process experience preferred.

  • Experience of various inspection tools and the ability to understand inspection reports.

  • Good understanding of Inspection and manufacturing techniques.

  • Experience of CNC machining is preferred.

  • IT literate, in particular SAP, Microsoft Project, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills (Lean/six sigma knowledge preferred).

  • The ability to work flexible hours should the business need arise.
