Hyde Group Named Manufacturing and Engineering Business of the Year at the 2026 Pride of Tameside Awards

Hyde Group has been named Manufacturing & Engineering Business of the Year at the 2026 Pride of Tameside Awards, recognising the Group's contribution to manufacturing excellence, skills development, community engagement and economic growth across the borough.

The award was presented at Dukinfield Town Hall during a celebration of the individuals, organisations and businesses that make Tameside a great place to live, work and succeed.

For Hyde Group, the recognition is particularly meaningful. Headquartered in Stalybridge and employing over 600 people across 18 manufacturing facilities, the Group remains deeply rooted in Tameside, with the majority of its workforce based within the borough.

Representatives from several Hyde Group companies attended the ceremony, reflecting the fact that this achievement belongs to the entire Group. From aerospace and defence to nuclear and energy, businesses across Hyde Group contribute to projects that support UK industry, national security and future technologies, demonstrating how engineering expertise developed in Tameside continues to have an impact on a national stage.

A Year of Manufacturing Excellence

A major highlight during the last 12 months was the achievement of SC21 Gold status by Hyde Details and Hollygate Aircraft Components.

SC21 is the aerospace and defence sector's leading supply chain improvement programme, with Gold representing the highest level of recognition available. The achievement places both businesses amongst the highest-performing organisations within the programme and reflects exceptional standards of quality, delivery performance and continuous improvement.

These Gold awards build upon a strong foundation across the wider Group, which also includes five SC21 Silver accreditations and one SC21 Bronze accreditation. In total, eight Hyde Group companies now participate in SC21, demonstrating that operational excellence and continuous improvement are embedded throughout the organisation.

The Group also continues to participate in major customer-led improvement programmes, including Rolls-Royce Aero's Zero Defects initiative and Rolls-Royce Submarines' Going for Gold programme.

Supporting Nationally Significant Programmes

Throughout the year, Hyde Group companies have continued to contribute to some of the UK's most important engineering and manufacturing programmes.

This work has included support for BAE Systems' Tempest programme, Rolls-Royce UltraFan, major nuclear projects and Babcock dockyard upgrades, alongside advanced tooling and manufacturing projects across the aerospace and defence sectors.

The Group has also supported the development of a multi-purpose high-speed rotating rig for the University of Cambridge's National Centre for Propulsion and Power. Supported by the Aerospace Technology Institute and Innovate UK, the project is helping accelerate the development of future aerospace propulsion technologies.

These programmes demonstrate the important role Tameside manufacturers continue to play in supporting innovation, research and industrial capability throughout the UK.

Investing in Future Talent

Developing future engineers remains central to Hyde Group's long-term success. The business currently employs more than 70 apprentices and over 70 early-career colleagues across a wide range of engineering and business disciplines. Working closely with Tameside College, Tameside Council and local schools, Hyde Group continues to create meaningful opportunities for local people to begin and develop successful careers in manufacturing and engineering.

As a recognised Train Tameside 500 Ambassador, Hyde Group remains committed to supporting the borough's future skills pipeline and helping inspire the next generation of engineers.

The success of these programmes was highlighted during the year when Manchester Precision Engineering apprentice Grace Pearson received both Engineering Student of the Year and overall Student of the Year at the Tameside College Awards.

The Group also maintains Gold Membership of The 5% Club, recognising its commitment to apprenticeships, graduate schemes and structured career development opportunities.

Supporting Communities Across Tameside

As one of the borough's largest engineering employers, Hyde Group recognises that its success is closely linked to the success of the communities in which it operates.

Alongside apprenticeship and skills initiatives, Hyde Group companies continue to support educational and community projects across Greater Manchester. Recent examples include supporting Tor View School's Enterprise Week and sponsoring Lancasterian School's football team; initiatives that are helping create opportunities for young people from a wide range of backgrounds. These community engagements form part of a broader commitment to supporting education, inclusion and social mobility throughout the region.

A Proud Moment for Hyde Group and Tameside

Winning Manufacturing & Engineering Business of the Year is recognition not only of Hyde Group's achievements as a business, but also of the talent, commitment and ambition that exists across Tameside's manufacturing community.

From developing future talent and supporting local communities to delivering work on nationally significant programmes and achieving industry-leading standards of operational excellence, Hyde Group continues to demonstrate that world-class engineering can thrive within the borough.

The award reflects the hard work and dedication of employees across every Hyde Group business and reinforces the Group's commitment to helping create a stronger future for manufacturing, engineering and skills development in Tameside.
