Role Overview
The Production Supervisor (Sheet-metal) for Hyde Details is a key part of the Management Team and is responsible for the day-to-day production requirements, working closely with the team leaders and production scheduler. You will report to the production manager and where required, acting up in his absence. As part of the management team, it is expected that the person in posts will act professionally, with authority, by example, and with best interest of Hyde Details.

Main Duties
Safety: lead by example, promotes safety and prevents unsafe acts and behavior.
Quality: ensures that aerospace standards of quality are met, taking appropriate actions to improve quality.
Cost: must be commercially astute, eliminate waste, allocate production requirements effectively and contribute to the identification of / implementation of continuous improvement activities.
Delivery: it plays a key role in ensuring that capacity is in place to discharge the operations required through each stage of the process.
People: create a positive, harmonious working environment that ensures we can best meet our clients’ requirements.
Sustainability: develop and maintain an understanding of the ongoing activity to retain our environmental accreditation and actions to reduce waste / our impact on the environment.
Role Requirements:
Safety
Have a working understanding of health and safety best practice and legislation.
Lead by example and promote / enforce safe working practices.
Ensure that H&S policies / memos are followed (inc. staff, visitors, contracts).
Prevent / police unsafe practice by operators.
Identify opportunities for safer practice.
Undertake personal H&S training courses / modules.
Support and maintain a “safety first” philosophy.
Quality
Maintain an awareness of the IMS core procedures / general quality requirements within the aerospace and defence sectors.
Ensure that all operators understand the quality expectation / requirements.
Intervene to prevent quality issues.
Implement proactive steps to increase quality standards / outcomes.
Attend MRB for sheet metal related items / issues if required (in the absence of the Production Manager).
Cost
Commercial awareness; develop an understanding of the MRP system.
Monitor operational times (op times/costs) and take actions in the event of excessive labour costs.
Identify and address issues that cause costing issues (scrap, labour times, OEE, poor practice etc).
Ensure that lean manufacturing operational practices are in place and that wastes (8 waste) are eliminated.
Review operational practices for cost efficiency and/or identify and explore better operational technology.
Delivery
Maintain an understanding of our client’s requirements to ensure that we can meet the level of delivery schedule adherence (DSA) targeted.
Production Work to list (WTL) requirements; ensure that collectively (Team leaders/operators) the sheet-metal ‘production team’ are working to the engaged and making the right decisions to achieve the required level of WTL DSA on a daily / weekly basis.
Capacity: ensure that we have the required capacity in-place to achieve the WTL demands.
Work allocation; assess the work content so that work can be allocated according to skill, training needs and to maximise the use of the capacity / resource available.
People
Create and maintain a positive working culture to ensure that we maximise our output through work allocation, training and development and workplace enthusiasm.
Training/skills development; using the skills matrix and by knowing your team, identify where training and development is needed to strengthen the team.
Trade tests: use the range of trade tests to support operator development, creating additional trade tests where required.
Communication / DSUM’s; chair operators DSUMS to ensure that relevant information is communicated in a timely / positive way to enhance the workplace culture. Take and respond to any actions arising from these meetings.
Charge hands / team-leaders; create, develop and evolve a small team of charge hands / team leaders (where required) to take responsibility for identified management tasks within the business. Ensure that their job descriptions accurately reflect their agreed remit.
Sustainability
requirements of ISO14001; maintain a working understanding of the environmental accreditation in order to make appropriate day to day decisions.
Regularly review activity within the factory with sustainability in mind, i.e. wasted resources, incorrect management of the disposal of waste etc.
Other
5S: ensure that 5S standard are in place, remain in place through training and that the 5S levels are audited and reported via the correct media.
Employee handbook: be aware of the company policies and apply consistently to prevent issues and maintain high standards.
Due to the subcontract nature of our business, a flexible hand on approach to your responsibilities is required.
Personal development: undertake additional training as required or identified to enhance your own leadership skills. This includes the use of IT.
